Cash and Carry are bringing a new perspective to newspaper marketing and helping many publications promote the branding of their product.

On August 18th Cash and Carry (a.k.a. The Classified Guys) appeared before a sold-out crowd at a George Carlin concert to promote The Hartford Courant classified section, branded Courant Classified (300K), at The Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford, CT.

In an ongoing effort to broaden the promotion on their classified section, Courant Classified debuted The Classified Guys on August 9th. But the promotion didn't stop there.

"We were looking for a new way to promote our publication outside of the traditional advertising avenues," says Jennifer Tracey, Classified Mktg Mgr.

Coordinating efforts with The Classified Guys, Courant Classified spotlighted their classified section in the heart of their market territory. As MC's for a sold-out crowd of 6000 people, Cash and Carry promoted the publication at the George Carlin Concert held at the CTNOW.com Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford, CT.

With a billboard-size display, Cash and Carry greeted the audience as they entered the pavilion to the theatre. After autographing copies of their column and answering questions, they stepped backstage for the show.

George Carlin, with a long career in comedy and movies, was the sellout performer of the evening. Dennis Blair, known for working with comics like Rodney Dangerfield, Joan Rivers & Garry Schandling, was the special guest and opening act.

At show time Cash and Carry stepped onstage to warm-up the audience, promote Courant Classified and get the show started introducing both Dennis Blair and George Carlin.

The event proved successful as people took home a copy of The Classified Guys and promotional material for Courant Classified. "We are always happy to help out our members," says Cash (a.k.a. Duane). Carry (a.k.a. Todd) continues, "This is a great opportunity to reach a new market. It offers a fun atmosphere where we can promote a member newspaper and help drive classified readership."

By targeting a consumer demographic and captivating audiences with a unique flare, Cash and Carry are helping newspapers of all circulation sizes to secure their classified market.
